Submitted by Gregg Hadley

This week's Shout Out comes from Erica Blair, program Manager, Kansas Healthy Food Initiative; and Charlene Miller, Director and Ag Agent in Butler County; and is directed to the following Local Meat Marketing Workshop Team Members. They write:

"We would like to give a BIG Shout-Out to the following Local Meat Marketing Workshop Team members, along with their behind the scenes support staff:
• Aaron Hyland
• Dale Helwig
• Londa Nwadike
• Rebecca McMahon
• Christina Holmes
• Ben Sims
• Hunter Nickell
• Charlene Miller
• Jessica Flory
• Jennifer Zuercher
• Margit Kaltenekker
• Nicole Kenniff
• Kate Fluckiger
• Erica Blair
• Jeff Seiler

This team spent an extensive amount of time collaborating and building three Local Meat Marketing workshops that were held in February and March at locations in Wichita, Olathe and Parsons. These came to fruition as a result of the Local Foods Transdisciplinary Team (LFTT). The goal of the team was to help meat, poultry and egg producers learn key marketing strategies and best practices to help them be successful in this growing demand for local food.

The workshops highlighted meat, poultry and egg regulations, local meat businesses, along with Local Proteins in a Child Nutrition Program, Marketing Strategies and Best Practices. All told, roughly 180 attendees received real-time, valuable information that no-doubt fulfilled the LFTT Mission: 'empower Kansans to build and support local and regional food systems. These create public value through vibrant economies, healthy families, and strong communities to enhance  livelihoods, protect the environment and provide access to abundant, safe, and nutritious food for all.'"

Local Meat Marketing Workshop Team Members and their support staff, thanks for all you do for the people of Kansas, our colleagues and K-State Research and Extension.

If you know of a colleague or team of colleagues who deserve recognition for a job well done, why not nominate them for a Shout Out. Simply send their name(s) and the reason for the Shout Out to ksreshoutout@ksu.edu. Also, it would be very helpful if you would put "Shout Out" in the subject line of the email.
