Shout Out: Andrea Burns and Ethel Schneweis

Submitted by Gregg Hadley

The Shout Out this week comes from Elaine Johannes, Associate Professor, Applied Human Sciences; and is directed to Andrea Burns, Ford County director; and Ethel Schneweis, Family and Consumer Sciences agent in Ford County.

During the recent SW KSAAA Senior Expo in Dodge City the successful partnership of Andrea Burns and Ethel Schneweis was obvious. Not only did they work together to organize Extension’s presence at the 28-county engagement event; they demonstrated the variety of work that KSRE professionals do to three K-State Masters in Public Health students and Stephanie Gutierrez, extension program coordinator, College of Health and Human Sciences; who were staffing Extension’s EXCITE (vaccination) information booth at the Expo.

The impact of Andrea’s and Ethel’s community work extended well beyond the large scale Expo. They both shared examples with the students of how they work across content areas for Ford county clientele. They also told of how the greater extension family supports each other. I greatly appreciate the juggling of roles and responsibilities that these nimble professionals do in service to all. I’ve witnessed first-hand Ethel’s teamwork with our SW region Community Health Corner communication campaign for women’s wellness, and Andrea’s spot-on contributions in the Stress and Resilience TDT. A hearty Shout Out! to Ethel and Andrea for going the “extra mile” for their communities and for the extension family!

Andrea and Ethel, thanks for all you do for the people of Kansas, our colleagues, and K-State Research and Extension.

If you know of a colleague or team of colleagues who deserve recognition for a job well done, why not nominate them for a Shout Out. Simply send their name(s) and the reason for the Shout Out to ksreshoutout@ksu.edu. Also, it would be very helpful if you would put "Shout Out" in the subject line of the email.
