Assistance Dog Exhibition: March 8, 2011

Kansas State University hosted an Assistance Dog Exhibition as an opportunity for the public to learn more about assistance dogs and their roles and responsibilities in the lives of people with disabilities.

We may see assistance dogs in training -- or on the job -- but may not realize how they assist people with disabilities, said Dr. Debra Sellers, Kansas State University Research and Extension specialist on adult development and aging.

Presentation: Dr. Ralph Richardson, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at K-State, provided a welcome that was followed by an informational session presented by representatives from the North Central Region of Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) and from KSDS, Inc., (formerly known as Kansas Specialty Dog Service) explaining the role of their staffs, puppy raisers, graduates, etc..
