Re-Think First Date?

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Dinner and a movie may sound like a great date, but it isn’t always the best choice for couples who want to get better acquainted, a Kansas State University specialist said.

While it’s true that choosing a movie can prompt discussion and a compromise – maybe choosing between a  romance movie and an adventure movie – spending time in a theater preempts time that could otherwise be spent talking and getting to know each other, said Charlotte Shoup Olsen, Kansas State University Research and Extension family systems specialist.

Choosing a quiet place for a meal or a walk with a leisurely stop for ice cream or coffee can be provide opportunities for getting acquainted and, later, nurturing a relationship, Olsen said.

More information on managing personal and family relationships is available at county and district K-State Research and Extension offices and on the Extension Web site: www.ksre.ksu.edu
