Heat Workshop'09 Presentations/Pictures Uploaded

Prof. Bh. Subramanyam's message for all those interested in  6th Heat Treatment Workshop and MB Alternatives

The Department of Grain Science at Kansas State University is hosting a Sixth Heat Treatment Workshop, May 13-15, 2009.  Please mark the date on your calendar. Tuesday, May 12, is essentially a travel day for participants.  The workshop will start with registration at 8:00 am on May 13 and the workshop will conclude by the afternoon of the 15.  Participants can make travel plan to leave Manhattan on 15 afternoon or the morning of 16.  Because of the tough financial situation we are all in, I have decided to charge a nominal registration fee of $150 per person.  The registration fee was two times this amount for previous workshops.

This workshop includes classroom lectures on Methyl Bromide, heat treatment and integrated management of stored product insects associated with food/feed plants.  A majority of lectures will cover the theory and practice of heat treatment technology.  Speakers and experts from heat treatment service providers, food industry, pesticide registrants, and scientists will share latest information on methyl bromide and alternatives.  Participants will gain first hand practical knowledge about heat treatments, and will see a practical heat treatment conducted in our state-of-the-art Hal Ross Flour Mill.

We are pleased that Temp-Air has agreed to conduct the heat treatment, and they have been extremely supportive and conducted heat treatments for all five workshops held at K-State.  The workshop is sponsored by the Propane  Education and Research Council, Washington, DC. Without their generous support it would have been impossible to host the workshop.

Please share this information with your colleagues or anyone interested in methyl bromide and methyl bromide alternatives.  If you would like to see information from past workshops, please visit my website at: www.ksre.ksu.edu/grsc_subi and go to the workshops link.  In the next few days I will be sending a detailed agenda after confirming topics and speakers.  If you would like to contact me, my e-mail is: sbhadrir@ksu.edu.

Thank you and look forward to seeing you at the heat treatment workshop in May!
