An aerial photograph was taken of a field.

Then Ron Gehl and Andy Steinert drove an all-terrain vehicle or rover on transects back and forth across this field.

The field computer recorded positions every second and created a topographic map.

Topographic maps give the elevation, longitude, and latitude of a specific area of land.  Each area is then analyzed against the other area to give a detailed map with the aerial photograph below.
