K-STATE RESEARCH AND EXTENSION AWARDS

Excellence in Extension Programming Awards
Nominations for these four awards may be submitted from any level of KSRE.  Nominations can be made by anyone, including self-nominations.  Awards may not be received by a unit, individual or team more than once.  Only electronic submission will be accepted.  The links to Qualtrics surveys are indicated below with the description of each award.  There will be four awards presented (one in each of four categories) each year.  The awards and criteria for each are described below.
 
Outstanding Local Unit Award  {submit nomination}
This award will be given to a local Extension Unit for excellence in each of three broad areas:  program, personnel and budget. One thousand dollars ($1,000) will be awarded to the unit for programming. Specifically, the review committee will be looking for evidence of:
 
Program
• At least one program action plan related to one or more of the Grand Challenges (Water, Health, Global Food Systems, Community Vitality and/or Developing Tomorrow’s Leaders)
• Active engagement with PDCs
• Conducting program needs assessment(s)
• Reaching underserved audiences
• Evaluation of educational programs
• Positive change in the clientele as a result of the programs
• Sharing outcomes and impact of educational programs (including in the on-line reporting system and Making a Difference Reports)
• Involving and supporting volunteers, if appropriate (including volunteer screening and management)
• Partnerships with other community organizations
 
Personnel
• Agents are involved in Program Focus Teams
• Agents are specializing
• Agents attend professional development opportunities related to:
o Subject matter
o Other competencies, including, but not limited to, Navigating Differences
• Agents are involved in leadership roles, mentor new agents, and are generally good citizens of KSRE
• Agents receive recognition and requests for community, state or national presentations
• Equality in pay of agents (no differences due to gender or subject matter specialty)
• PDCs and Boards developing greater skills through use of Board Leadership Modules
• Program assistants and office professionals are actively engaged in supporting the work
 
Budget
• External funding obtained for educational programs
• Budgets managed wisely


Outstanding District or County Extension Professional  {submit nomination}
This award will be given to an individual agent from either a district or a county that exhibits excellence in Extension programming. One thousand dollars ($1,000) will be awarded to the local unit for the individual’s Extension programming. Specifically, the review committee will be looking for evidence of:
• Active involvement in a Program Focus Team
• Engagement of the Program Development Committee in identification of need for the program
• A focused, in-depth program plan related to the Program Focus Team work and at least one of the Grand Challenges (Water, Health, Global Food Systems, Community Vitality or Developing Tomorrow’s Leaders) In addition, related to this program:
o Attendance at professional development training(s)
o Partners involved
o External funding received
o Program evaluations and resulting positive changes or impact
o Reporting of activities and impact
o Reaching underserved audiences
• Professionalism, in general (for example, leadership or being a good Extension citizen)
 
Outstanding Area or State Extension Professional  {submit nomination}
This award will be given to an individual from an area or state level that exhibits excellence in Extension programming. One thousand dollars ($1,000) will be awarded to the department for the individual’s Extension programming. Specifically, the review committee will be looking for evidence of:
• Active involvement in a Program Focus Team
• Assessment of need for the program
• A focused, in-depth program plan related to at least one of the Grand Challenges (Water, Health, Global Food Systems, Community Vitality or Developing Tomorrow’s Leaders)
Related to this program:
o professional development training provided to agents or others
o partners involved
o and external funding received
o program evaluation and resulting positive changes or impact
o reporting of activities and impact
o reaching underserved audiences
o attending personal professional development related to the program
• Professionalism, in general (for example, leadership or being a good Extension citizen)

Outstanding Program Focus Team  {submit nomination}
This award will be given to a Program Focus Team that exhibits excellence in Extension programming. Three thousand dollars ($3,000) will be awarded to the Program Focus Team to facilitate the team’s programming. Specifically, the review committee will be looking for evidence of:
• Shared leadership (including delegation of responsibilities
• Team members actively engaged
• Team meetings held multiple times per year (including face to face and via technology)
• Collaboration among members and others
• Team action plan(s) developed and submitted
• Plans for professional development relevant to action plan(s) to build capacity for strong programs, including:
o In-depth training for team members
o Basic training for other Extension professionals
• Evaluation plans for all action plans and evaluation tools in K-PICs
• Reports submitted
• Team budget is managed wisely

Additional Special Awards

Individuals can be selected as an award winner in a category more than one time for the following awards.

Builder Awards  -  {submit nomination}
These awards recognize individuals who have exhibited extra energy and creativity over a number of years in building new programs, audiences or institutions within K-State Research and Extension.
 
Diversity Award  {submit nomination}
K-State Research and Extension is committed to diversity in programming, workforce and relationships with other organizations.  Nominees for this award will be individuals who have embraced and demonstrated this vision.
 
Team Award  {submit nomination}
The Team Award acknowledges outstanding efforts by a group of individuals addressing one of the grand challenges facing Kansans: Water, Health, Feeding Nine Billion, Community Vitality and Developing Tomorrow's Leaders.
 
Mentoring Award   {submit nomination}
K-State Research and Extension faculty are encouraged to nominate a mentor who has helped them and others achieve higher performance and productivity.  Nominees might be an early-career mentor or someone who has served as a mentor anytime throughout the nominator's career path. One award will be presented to an extension agent mentor and one to an area or campus-based faculty mentor.
 
Local Unit Office Professional of the Year  -  {submit nomination}
County and district offices are encouraged to nominate an office professional who demonstrates initiative, productivity, creativity, adaptability, teamwork, and service.
 
Unclassified Employee of the Year  -   (for the College of Agriculture and all divisions of K-State Research and Extension on and off-campus). {submit nomination}
This award recognizes individuals who are in unclassified non-tenure track positions. The nomination should include information about special efforts and accomplishments.
