KSRE PDF Tool Kit 2012
The KSRE Technology unit has a PDF Tool Kit CD available for use by KSRE offices as well as the general public. The tools contained on the CD are meant to provide a high level of functionality and features when working with PDF files for no cost.
 
KSRE Staff can download the full ISO image of the CD from our KSRE Computer Toolkit page under the Full CD Discs in ISO format section. That file will allow users to burn as many copies of the disc as needed. This disc is licensed for public use and can be given to the general public as needed.
 
 
Using the KSRE PDF Tool Kit 2012
 
  1. To use the CD, simply insert it in to the CD drive on your computer. Depending on how your computer is configured, the above window may appear automatically. If not, go to the Computer or My Computer icon on your Desktop or Start Menu and double-click your CD drive to launch the program.
  2. To install a tool from the CD, simply click the button for the tool and follow the steps in the installation program.
 
Tools on the KSRE PDF Tool Kit 2012
PDF-XChange PDF Viewer
  • This program has many features to view and edit PDF files. Notably, it allows you to save data entered in to a form-fillable PDF file, and has a typewriter mode that allows you to type on a PDF file, even if it isn’t designed to be a form-fillable PDF file. This is extremely useful when filling out online forms and applications.
PDF Creator
  • This program creates a printer on your computer that allows you to turn any document you can print into a PDF file. Simply print the document as you normally would and select the PDF Creator printer to save any file as a PDF file. It also has useful options for adding extra information to the PDF file to make it easy to find if it is posted on the web.
PDFrizator
  • Create PDF presentations and convert multiple file formats to PDF with this handy tool. Also, you can use it to rearrange and rotate pages in an existing PDF file. Additionally, this program allows you to acquire images from a TWAIN device such as an older scanner or camera.
PDFTools
  • This utility has many unique features. It will help you encrypt or decrypt a PDF file to make sure the data inside is only viewed by the correct people. It has tools to split a PDF by page into multiple files, or join multiple PDF files together into one file. You can also rearrange the order of pages in a PDF file, or put an image “stamp” on each page.
LibreOffice
  • This successor to OpenOffice is a full-fledged office suite available completely free. It is compatible with the latest version of Microsoft Office and can open and edit all the common file formats. Notably, it also has the ability to create form-fillable PDF files using its form creation features. Also included on the CD are some useful help files and information for LibreOffice.
Oracle Java JRE
  • This is an installer for the Java Runtime Engine (JRE) that is required to run LibreOffice. Many computers already have it installed, but it is included on the CD in case it is needed when installing LibreOffice.
Paint.NET
  • Paint.NET is a free image editing program with many features. It has the ability to edit images using layers, and is able to work with most image formats.
Calibre eBook Manager
  • This program is designed to make it easy to manage an eBook collection. It has tools to convert many file formats, including PDF files, to an eBook format for use on most popular eBook readers. It can also help you find and download many free eBooks online, as well as allow you to view them on your computer.
  • This button will take you directly to the KSRE Publications Library, where you can find information on a variety of topics. Many of our publications are available to download in a PDF format for free.
