KELP is dedicated to filling its program with people from a variety of career paths,  organizations, and backgrounds, all of whom have an interest in the environment and leadership.

The Kansas Environmental Leadership Program:
Recognized in 2003 for the CF Industries National Watershed Award, and The 2009 Excellence in Conservation and Environmental Education Awards by KACEE.

2013 Kansas Dam Safety Conference

When: Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013 8:30 a.m.- 4:45 p.m.

Where: Kansas University Edwards Campus, Regnier Hall Auditorium, 12604 Quivira Road, Overland Park, Kan. 66213

Registration: The fee is $45 and $55 after Feb. 1, 2013.

  • Includes presentations, lunch, break refreshments, and professional development hours and continuing education credits (floodplain managers).

  • Space limited to first 175 registrants.

  • Vendor cost is $100, which includes one conference registration.

  • Information booths for nonprofits/governmental agencies are available at no charge.

Species Monitoring and Conservation: Reptiles

Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, Front Royal, VA, USA

May 13-24, 2013

This is a graduate level course focusing on the use of field, laboratory, computational, and captive techniques to measure, monitor, and conserve reptile populations.


The total course fee is $3, 478. This includes:

  • Instruction and course materials, food, shared lodging, and transport to/from Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD).

  • Partial scholarships are available on a competitive basis.

Second annual Borlaug Summer Institute on Global Food Security

This two-week learning program is for graduate students who are interested in developing a holistic understanding of the conceptual challenges around global food security with a focus on cross-disciplinary problem solving of real-world development challenges.


  • Applicants must have completed at least one semester of graduate study and be enrolled in a U.S. institution at the time of application.

  • U.S. citizenship is not required.

When: Tuesday, May 28- Saturday, June 8, 2013

Where: Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN
